God doesn't exist, depression is a mental illness that needs to be treated by a medical professional. Sometimes the very belief in a god that does nothing, due to his nonexistence, causes further depression to those that pray and get no answers and or feel worse because it's like the believer feels ignored by the god they praise and love and have invested in their whole lives. So when this happens, they realize that he could care less and they face the reality of his nonexistence or many question how they have wasted their lives believing and worshiping a god that doesn't come through for them in their most desperate time of need BEEEEEECAAAAAUSE HE DOES NOT EXIST!!!!!!!
Depression is a serious illness brought on by circumstances, chemical imbalances in the brain, or both. People suffering with depression should seek professional help immediately. Religion is responsible in many cases of depression because of oppression and fear mongering. The Jehovah's Witnesses, for example, have a very high suicide rate.
God has nothing to do with any of this, and anyone thinking they can pray away depression, isn't that bright to begin with. If you're having a heart attack, should you pray or call 911? BTW, I am a Christian.
Medical and mental illnesses need to be treated by DOCTORS!!!!!!
If you break your leg, what, you're going to pray for it to heal itself??? Come on.

For lulz, God has a sick sense of humor.
Because he gets a kick out of watching his creations die, by any means possible.
God allows you to control yourself. No one is forced to get so self-absorbed that they are depressed when He gives such beauty and purpose.
It's called free will.
Most of the depressives I've ever met are people who assume that circumstances are what makes them victims, rather than their own choices.
Jesus said in John 10:34 we are all Gods . Some people are so spoiled they think they can make God feel sorry for them .
Sadness and depression are two very different problems.
depression is a mental illness and it is connected to chemical imbalances in the brain. It can be a reaction to life events (reactive depression) or it can be genetic / environmentally induced. The former can be successfully treated with a fusion of CBT and hypnosis, I have done this many times. However, I have also had to refer the client back to their doctor because the chemical imbalance has blocked all psychological treatments. The latter must be treated by medication prescribed by your doctor. In both cases, it is advisable to see your doctor because they can correctly diagnose which it is.
Sadness is always reactive. It is part of adapting to loss or unfulfilled expectations. Counselling is the best for this as it usually only needs to be talked through.
Prayer is never useful with depression, however, as their is elements similar to counselling (you get to talk without interuption), it can help with sadness.

Life is sometimes sad.....& yes everybody dies.
Its how you live, love and show your light to the world.
We all fall short sometimes.
Who says they are true believers. Liberal Christians go to hell just like atheists and ISIS. Mental ilness can cause a person to forget everything they have ever known so if they did something like this in this state they would not be held to judgement for it. You are asking why the lord allows people to get sick and die and this goes deep. I can only answer that it's to teach very difficult life lessons and to keep people from having no choice but to worship god in a reluctant manner. Therefore God created a world that is half way between heaven and hell for all the billions of humans who would ever live and it will stay that way until all things are fulfilled and the experiment of redemption and adoption is over.
God does not treat us like robots. He allows us to follow our own hearts desires. While no one chooses to have depression, it is like all other illness in that it is a result of the imperfections that we all face on this Earth. .
Depression can be, and often is, a very serious condition, but so are many other afflictions that befall us because we live in an imperfect world.

Depression is often punishment for sins - God doesn't punish because he wants to destroy - God punishes to get the attention of the wrong doer who has not responded to other means of calling out for his attention. I know an intelligent and very good looking guy he refused to give up his sex addiction and his classicism and he is now disabled and living on welfare. I knew a lawyer who helped many murderers escape jail and he became disabled after a car crash. I know a girl who had no respect for God's standard of purity and she flunked out of university and accumulated massive amounts of student debt. I knew a girl who had no respect for honesty and she got dumped by her fiance. I knew a guy who refused to be honest and he got dumped by his first and only girlfriend after being single for over 16 years.
