當使用「過去簡單式」時，action verb是發生在過去的行為（通常在本句或前文之中會給一個過去的時間點或時間），state verb是過去的狀況（但不一定給時間點），可是現在已經改變，不再是那樣了。previlege是action verb是發生在過去的行為。

如主要動詞用「現在簡單式」則表示所述永遠為真，是屬於timeless present的行為或狀況。
