有關sample的中譯(「樣本」vs. 「樣品」)

依你的上下文應該譯成「樣本」才不容易造成誤會。

samples taken = 所採取的樣「本」＝採樣

英文的sample可以指「採樣」或「打樣」，但需用修飾語來限定，上面所用的taken就是一個限定詞：

A sample of a substance is a small amount of it that is examined and analyzed scientifically.

A sample of a substance or product is a small quantity of it that shows you what it is like.

在中譯時，要注意配合內容來選擇適當的用詞。不精確的用詞常需要使用修飾語加以約束。但要注意，沒有限定詞時，中文的「樣本」與「樣品」有時是可以通用的。

照您這麼說，應該就是"樣本"比較合適。因為這裡"抽樣"(sampling)，然後拿去實驗室用儀器測試，其目的就是希望sample (樣本)是有代表性的，亦即representative, typical。

I beg to differ.

「樣本」= 樣 + 本 and
「樣品」= 樣+ 品

where
樣 = sample selected in certain fashion

本 = to be used as a "standard" for specific purposes.
品 = tp be viewed as "one of" which may or may not be typical.
