well (adv), for qualifying a verb

The correct sentence is:
He hopes he can swim as well as his trainer.

He can run as quickly as a cougar. (Quickly modifies run. Do not write as quick as)

Her recipes are as good as Jamie Oliver's. (Good qualifies the noun recipes.)
