There are some questions that I really want to point out in the letter. I write to apologize for being late at school yesterday because I overslept for more than 20 minutes. You write to apologize for whom is being late at school yesterday? In order not to go to school late, I went to school by taxi. This statement is a general statement. Why the main clause is in past tense? I understand it was my fault for not getting up early but I am sure it might not happen again. If you are sure in doing something, why you use the modal "might"? You can't guarantee something in future. Also you didn't show your intention in how you can improve this situation.

Revised: You write to apologize for whom was being late at school yesterday?

Both Garlic and Ahhhh are very good at Enghlish. There is no point to argue with each other. It is only me who is not well in Enghlish.

garlic, it's nice to see you here again. First of all, would you tell me that you are a man or a woman?

I am writing to apologize for being late to school

I know this sentence is correct. However, the above sentence isn't my sentence.

Yes, your statement is true, but I'd like to emphasize my apology. Besides, I don't have to say how I can improve this situation, but it impresses someone who is reading this letter.

In order not to go to school late, I went to school by taxi.

I can't agree with you at this point. I went to school by taxi in order not to be late yesterday. This is referring to a particular event instead of a general statement. Do you think you won't be late anymore in the future?

2011-07-01 20:45:52 補充:
Once again, I'd like to thank your frequent attention on my criticisms!

2011-07-02 20:47:55 補充:
Thank you Garlic but I'm still interested in you gender. I'd like to talk to you in private not public, but I think here should be the best place for some one whose major is English or who are well in English to comment on my own English mistakes.

2011-07-02 20:48:55 補充:
Feel free to point it out and I'll check it with some of my English specialists. I don't have enough points to discuss with you on this platform, so I think we should find a way to get contact.

2011-07-02 20:53:05 補充:
I hate English Literature. Actually, I hate languages. My language is no match with someone who are professionally in English or other languages. Besides, what other languages do you speak? Are you good at speaking English or else?

2011-07-02 20:57:08 補充:
It's not a trick though. There are thousands of English speakers who do not speak English properly, and it's true. If you are well in English Literature, I think you should know why "go bed" isn't correct. I think you can tell.

2011-07-02 20:59:00 補充:
Of course, I know why "go bed" isn't correct, but this answer doesn't mean it's from an official answer. There are word limitations and I've to stop here! It's really annoying! See you on any other posts.

2011-07-04 14:35:22 補充:
Garlic, you are off topic here. You should put this question back to the previous post. I was asking you why "go to bed" is correct and it doesn't mean I'll stand firm with my answer.

2011-07-04 14:36:06 補充:
. I mean if you know why "go to bed" is correct, so you should have ability to tell me why it's correct literally. Generally accepted usage, how can you define this term? How general is it? You told me that there are millions of people saying like this.

2011-07-04 14:37:38 補充:
You provided answer is such a crap! You said my answer is wrong, so you've to tell me why your answer is correct. If you don't know why it's correct, so how can you blame on someone's answer is incorrect.

2011-07-04 14:37:54 補充:
It's like what you said: "go to sleep" is Chinese, and I’ve proofed it to you that "go to sleep" isn't Chinese. In you sentence, I am asking (whom) to explain why go bed is correct. I think you also need to pay attention to the sentence structure.

2011-07-04 14:42:06 補充:
Garlic, work hard and listen to someone's opinions as I always do!

I write to apologize for being late at school ...
I would write it this way:
I am writing to apologize for being late to school ...

2011-07-01 16:46:24 補充:
Ahhhh...
What is "for whom was being late"?
You are asking whose being late or for whom the apology is intended?

2011-07-01 16:48:22 補充:
There is no need to write "apologize for my being late" as you will not apologize for any other people's being late than yourself.

2011-07-01 16:50:36 補充:
In order not to go to school late, I went to school by taxi.
This is not a general statement but was referring to a particular incident.

2011-07-02 14:35:40 補充:
Ahhhh, you have asked me to explain why "go to bed" is correct. I answered I couldn't explain it but it was generally accepted by English speaking people. You played a trick on my words saying that many English speaking people did not speak correct English.

2011-07-02 14:37:54 補充:
Let me correct it this way, generally used in English literature. How about that. Maybe you can explain to me why you say "go bed" is correct.

2011-07-02 14:45:30 補充:
I am interested in the comment to answers, whoever the writers are. You just happened to write the last three. I do notice some grammatical mistakes in your sentences, especially those of more complicated structure. Work hard and pay attention to the sentence structure. Good luck.

2011-07-02 14:46:42 補充:
My gender is the last thing you should care about.

2011-07-03 16:37:44 補充:
In this article,
http://hk.knowledge.yahoo.com/question/article?qid=6911062200068
you wrote

Feeling tired, I went bed earlier yesterday.

Note:NOT TO BED!!!

2011-07-03 16:43:50 補充:
In Opinion 005 of the same article, you wrote

Because I was tired, I went bed earlier. (not to bed, it doesn't make sense.)

Now you say "go bed" isn't correct. What is your stand on this?

2011-07-03 16:45:54 補充:
I am asking to explain why go bed is correct as you had asked me to explain why "go to bed" is correct. My answer is generally accepted usage. What is yours?
