Why would the Olympic was held by China in 2008

China's bid to hold the 2000 Olympic games was defeated by the joint effort of the Western countries, who were determined to let a Western country hold the millennium Olympics. After several rounds of voting, Australia won the bid to hold the 2000 Olympic games.

China bid again for the 2008 Olympic games. There was no reason China would fail a second time because China, at the time of voting (2000), was an emerging economic and political power and it would have been 20 years apart since the games were held in Seoul, Asia in 1988.
