1BC and 1AD were two different years. 1 BC was one year before 1 AD.
Most historians agree that Jesus was born around 5-4 BC, not in 1 AD.
That is why historians today use the term BCE (Before Common Era) and CE instead of BC and AD.

Anno Domini calendar was devised by Dionysius Exiguus (470 - 544). In what is today known as 525, he stated that that year was the 525th year since "the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ".

How he arrived at that number was unknown but it was pretty close, missing by only 4 or 5 years from today's historians' estimate of Jesus's birthday.

Anno Domini(西元) strated from Jesus Christ's birth( 1BC / 1AD ), so now is also Anno Domini , but no people will said that in nowadays.
eg. 1998= 1998(AD) , 2008=2008(AD )
