This was from Karl Marx's theory of Capitalism. Marx assumed that capitalists' main production factor, land and capital, had no cost in production and only human workers were entitled to returns of production. Marx saw that capitalists got more from the returns of production than workers and he formulated that it was exploitation.
Alienation was the separation of workers and their human nature. Marx believed that workers lost the control of their own lives in not having any control on their own work. The workers were not their own.
