keep abreast of (a subject) = know the most recent facts about a subject
Examples:
She keeps abreast of the hottest news in town by reading the "gossip" magazines.
To work in the IT industry, one has to keep abreast of the latest technology.
"We need to keep ourselves abreast of time." (我地要與時並進) is grammatically correct but it is Chinese expressed in English language. How can you live in yesterday? I wonder if a native English speaker will understand the meaning behind our Chinese expression.

Both 龜博士 's stay up-to-date and my suggestion of keep abreast of mean following the latest trends closely.與時並進 has an active connotation, meaning leading the innovation.
