the + adj. = noun 嗎？

the+adj可以成為名詞，其所成的名詞又分為複數普通名詞和抽象名詞兩種。
１）複數普通名詞
　　The rich are apt to despise the poor（富有的人易於藐視窮人）
　　rich和poor原是形容詞，解釋做「富有的」和「貧窮的」，一旦在它們前面加上冠詞the，即成了「富有的人們」(=rich people)、「貧窮的人們」(=poor people)
　　有時我們也在做形容詞用的現在分詞、過去分詞前面加冠詞the，而成為普通複數名詞，如下：
　　The living were few（生存者寥寥無幾）
　　The wounded were carried to hospital（受傷者被送往醫院）
　　另外，我們還可以在形容詞前面接以副詞：
　　如：The lightly wouned were neglected(輕傷者被疏忽在一旁）
　the sick, the young, the old, the English, the dying, the learned．．．等等，都是用the+形容詞＝名詞。
（注意）當此用法將兩個併排出現，並且對照著說時，則將the省略
　　如：Young and old, rich and poor went to see it.
２）抽象名詞
　如：He has no sense of the beautiful.（他沒有美感）
　beautiful原是形容詞，加上the成為抽象名詞「美」，the good（善），the true（真），the impossible（不可能）．．．等等亦同。
the injured是一個複數形的普通名詞
但the interesting應該要加books，因為通常我們不知interesting所修飾者是甚麼事物
the relaxing garden的relaxing是動名詞（之前講過），所以不可說成the relaxing.
