There were some extraordinary 特殊的 images 景像 at the old Star Ferry Pier in Central today ... images of defiance (defiance 怎解？) and violence 暴力 as protesters making a last stand to save 拯救 the pier 碼頭 clashed 衝突 with police.

Last stand 作為標題，可譯作最後的表態或最後努力(意譯)，Stand 在此是名詞，有立場及表態的意思，文中的 making a last stand，可解作盡最後努力。Defiance 在此解反抗或反對。Defiance 在別的場合可解輕蔑，在這裡卻不是。
Demonstrators 是示威者，而Demontrate (verb) 與 Demonstration (noun) 解示威。
Destruction是解清拆，相反詞是 Construction，即建設。

defiance here means 反抗；蔑視
last stand means 最後的，末尾的
demonstrators = 示威者
示威者 = 清拆 here or 消滅
