No, sorry, and it reads very unnaturally.  I'd write:

The quill (pen, I would prefer to leave this word out as unnecessary for understanding) is now an obsolete tool (I would prefer "writing implement" as more elegant) from a bygone era/ from the past/ from premodern timeS.
