Would you eat a can of soup that was purchased back on July 31, 1992?

Most canned food is good for a really long time, but nearly 3 decades? I wouldn't eat it. Just keep it as a keepsake. Hey, it's kinda cool that it was from the day you were born, right? Why eat it after all this time? Just buy another can of soup, costs a few bucks and no risk of getting sick.

Eat it only if you are George Costanza.  Really, don't eat it.  If you were in a plane crash on a desert island, ok but in general, don't eat 30 year old food/keepsakes.

I saw a programme on TV where they opened a can of fish from the 1940s and it was perfect.

Can't food should last for decades so long as the inside coating doesn't degrade and the food reacts with the steel - this could happen with something very acidic. You should be okay with soup though.

Obviously if the can is bulging you mustn't eat the contents.

Would I eat that soup? If it was something I liked I'd try it. I'd open it, and check it. If it smelt, looked or tasted wrong I'd throw it out , If it was okay then yes, I'd eat it. 

Really though, it's just a can of soup. If you're bothered about its age then don't eat it.

Most can goods have a 2 to 3 month shelf live. Look on the bottom, look for a exploration date.

It is no longer Food. It is  keepsake. 

If the interior of the can is okay it's probably edible but the taste and texture deteriorates over time.  It might taste unpleasant.  If the can had been damaged ut will be apparent.

It's amazing that the older can fared so much better.

No way. I wouldn't take a risk with a can that old. Buy a new can of soup.

Would I eat it? No I wouldn't - it could still be good but I am not so desperate for food that I would take the risk.
