Is being racist a cultural thing in the first world?

Greetings

I don't usually switch between yahoo international websites, but I really need to ask something today.

I've met a bunch of virgins kids today on Twitch, and they treated me very badly because I'm brasileiro, and I started to think if this kind of thing is cultural to you guys, or just another isolated case on the internet...

I got barely offended because mostly of them were using strange nicknames and anime/meme profile pics, so I didn't make a big deal of it.

No offense, but every time I meet someone from North America, he/she behave like a douche.

I wonder if you guys have some kind of meeting every week to discuss how to mock south americans by saying "oh my, he lives on a shack", "oh my, don't get too close or you'll be infected with yellow fever", "oh my, another latino playing Dark Souls II from his slum".

And the fun fact is, I was playing the game without cheating, and one canadian and his american friend was... and they got mad because I refused to play with them.

So there's the question:
is it cool to you to make fun of another culture because someone didn't make your wills? or this was just INCEL behaviour?

Sorry if I made any grammatical or syntaxe mistake. I know a little of english and other four languages. God bless you all.

The internet in general isn't going to improve your perception, I'm afraid... For some reason, everyone is far worse to each other online than they tend to be offline. Especially kids. And especially gamers for some reason.

I can't say there aren't cultures here where this kind of thing is common, but decent people tend to despise it.
參考: Big gamer myself with Dark Souls being my favorite series. But I'm also familiar with the kind of BS you encounter in that space way too often.

Being racist is a cultural thing the World over.  Dealing with adolescents is all about the attitude.  Don't get the impression that their bullying is a mark of confidence--it is really a sign of insecurity coupled with the autonomy of the internet.  The best thing to do is ignore them--that will make their efforts meaningless.

No, it's certainly not, and most of us don't find the behavior you're describing to be acceptable nor do we tolerate it in our daily lives. On the internet however, you find an extremely high proportion of angry, insecure adolescents who thrive on belittling, insulting, and harassing others while they sit safely behind their computer screens and know that there are no repercussions for their behavior. You will not find this kind of behavior in colleges or universities, and you won't find it in the workplace either. But in the gamer universe, it's a regular, ugly thing. Sorry you had to discover that first hand.

Racism is the norm around the world.  Go to any country and you will find rampant racism.  The scary thing is that the United States is in a four-way tie as the least racist country on the planet with Canada, Norway, and Sweden by several metrics, including by the World Values group.  Imagine what it must be like elsewhere.  We are one of the very few countries in the world with equal rights legislation on the basis of numerous demographic considerations including race.

Racism is awful but individual instances make us question our own values and beliefs towards it, yet I don't believe it's a cultural thing generally.

All racism is cultural

Scientifically, all humans alive are the same race
