Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) solutions are used for the determination of iron in samples of unknown concentration. As a laboratory assistant, you are supposed to prepare 1500. mL of a 0.200 M KMnO4 solution. What mass of KMnO4, in grams, do you need?

✔ 最佳答案
Molar mass of KMnO₄ = (39.10 + 54.94 + 16.00×4) g/mol = 158.04 g/mol
Moles of KMnO₄ needed = (0.200 mol/L) × (1500/1000 L) = 0.300 mol
Mass of KMnO₄ needed = (0.300 mol) × (158.04 g/mol) = 47.4 g

====
OR:
(0.200 mol KMnO₄ / 1000 mL solution) × (1500 mL solution) × (158.04 g KMnO₄ / 1 mol KMnO₄)
= 47.4 g KMnO₄

Molar mass KMnO4 = 158.03 g/mol

1500 mL = 1.500 L
1.500 L X 0.200 mol/L X 158.03 g/mol = 47.41 g KMnO4
