Which is a better auto insurance company Geico or Progressive?

I am currently with farmers and looking to get away from them because they keep raising my insurance too much.

Which is better, cannot be answered.  They are both good or they wouldn't be in business.
Get as many quotes from as many companies as you can bear, then choose the best quote for *YOU* and your particular situation.

All insurance companies raise rates.  Find out why your rates are going up.  Maybe it is something you have done.

Price is not everything.  You get what you pay for.   If you get good service with the insurance agent and the company pays their claims fair and quick that is more important than saving a few dollars.

I was with State Farm, but when I reapplied after ADC, Too High. I went with Progressive'. No Problems. Might have raised my rates due to inflation, but not unreasonably. Handled claims quickly. Never drooped me.

I think Progressive is better than GEICO but it really depends on their policies about accidents and what can cause them to raise your rates. After 30 years with GEICO, I had one small fender-bender and my rate got raised nearly 3 times what I had been paying. I switched.  Progressive's rates have gone DOWN every year.

I hate Farmers.
I have Progressive.

I have been with both.  First with GEICO because their initial rate was the lowest of all I called.  BUT you expect a rate increase at every renewal, but their's was insane:  15% - 21% - even more.

So I switched to Progressive:  sure rates go up, but not nearly as much.

In South Carolina Geico is the cheapest.  I recommend shopping around every 3-5 years.
2021-03-01 3:56 am
Neither.  Ins co's who advertise cheap rates often renew with rates which arenlt so cheap.     I had insurance with one, ( cheap rates) and after a year my renewal went up 19%. No accidents or violations, everything remained the same.    I talked to another agent; he said I fell for a "teaser rate"  a low rate to get you to buy their coverage, then a year later, ZAP!
Needless to say, he found me a better deal.and my premium has been stable the past 4 years.
I feel I am paying for insurance, not TV commercials

Neither one is any good.  Keep with good ones and forget the cheap ones.  Remember, cheap ones have no good customer service ratings and are terrible at fixing anything.

i would talk to both of them and then decide

Geico is better since there prices are lower than Progressive.
2021-03-03 1:55 am
Neither as I found both over priced. Stay away from The General as they don't back you up in court if you're in a minor accident. I like Mercury as Ive been with them for over 15 years and they give a discount if you have no tickets or accidents.

Well compare their cost for the same coverage.  We're not doing that for you.  Geesh!
2021-03-01 9:42 pm
Not GEICO, they are not the one for you.
2021-03-01 6:33 am
They will ALL raise your insurance sooner or later. More claims means more pay-outs means the money comes from the other drivers, as you all pay for it in the end.  As insurance companies COMPETE against each other to get the most customers then they can't be too far out of line from what another insurance is charging. They are hoping NONE OF THEM HAVE TO PAY OUT - in fact they are banking on it that MOST CUSTOMERS "won't have a claim the entire time that they are insured with that company.  My dad drove for 55 years and NEVER HAD A CLAIM or accident during that time.  These are the people who keep insurance companies in the BLACK.
. Inflation happens. Mechanics and autobody shop rates have risen and the cost of paint has doubled if not tripled.  You wages probably have gone up too. You can't catch up.

Neither is better.  Or both.  There is no such thing as an average, despite what the cute little lizard says in those commercials.

There are over 100 factors that go into the calculation for auto insurance rates, and all insurance companies raise their prices on a regular basis.  It's this new thing called inflation, and the insurance companies have all heard of it.

You have to figure out which insurer has the best deal for you, and there's only one way to do that.  You have to get estimates and compare them.

In MY area Farmers is very expensive for the same coverage offered by other companies.  Progressive cancels when it feels like cancelling, and then you are left scrambling for insurance.  GEICO's claims adjusters are slow.  It's a mixed bag.
2021-02-28 5:31 am
They are all about the same. What saves you money is what other policies you have with them like homeowners, boat, GL, etc
2021-03-04 2:15 am
I just switched to Progressive last year, and their prices are really good.

The problem with insurance companies is that you don't know how good they are until you actually file a claim.
2021-03-02 7:27 pm
They all do it. Accept the fact that insurance is protection. Wait, don’t  the mob and gangs do that?
2021-03-02 9:16 am
All insurance companies are only in it for the money they get off of you.  You can switch to whichever one will give you the best deal.  Know that you will have to switch again in a few years, especially if you had a claim or two.

Check with AAA.  I thought I was getting decent rates on my bundle from MetLife, but AAA beat them by quite a bit.

I don't know. My mother used State Farm. She said their insurance was very good.

Both are more expensive than Allstate in my case. Price isn't everything. My policy cannot be canceled and it hasn't gone up in the over 10 years I've had it. Plus I have unlimited accident forgiveness, not just one.

According to J.D. Power's 2020 Auto Insurance Shopping Survey, Geico ranks highest for customer satisfaction with a score of 867 on a 1,000 point scale, among large auto insurance companies. Progressive has a customer satisfaction ranking of 848 on a 1,000 point scale, slightly below average.

Both are more expensive than Allstate in my case. Price isn't everything. My policy cannot be canceled and it hasn't gone up in the over 10 years I've had it. Plus I have unlimited accident forgiveness, not just one. I've had more than one accident and in one my car was totaled (don't judge, you don't know the details) and they didn't raise my rate. I asked them what happens if I have another and they said, "Nothing, we'll repair your car and not raise the rate".

When shopping, it is best to call each company directly, not just rely on a website to give you multiple quotes.

I check rates every 6-12 months. For me, in my state, its always Geico and State Farm. And I switched a few times when the other had a better rate. Nobody else came close to their rates and state farm has been close but 2nd for the last 4-5 years. I get a small geico discount for being a Berkshire Hathaway shareholder.  That may be why state farm is always 2nd lately.

Farmers, All State & progressive have never been competitive for me.

Last time a local former state farm agent who is now independent got close but did not beat geico.

But rate rises tend to happen across the board.
