If you have to make an IV containing 400 mg of antiviral drug x and the concentration of the drug is listed as 0.1g/ml.  What volume of this antiviral drug do you add to the IV?  Answer must be in ml.

I know that 0.1 g = 100 mg
So 0.4 g = 400 mg
And 0.4g = 0.4 ml
I thought the answer was 0.4 ml but the correct answer in the book says 4 ml

What am I doing wrong, or what am I missing?  Can someone explain please?

✔ 最佳答案
1000 mg = 1 g
400 mg = 400/1000 g = 0.4 g

Volume of the drug = (0.4 g) × (1 ml / 0.1 g) = 4 ml

The concentration of the drug is 0.1g per millilitre, or 100 milligrams per millilitre.

You need 400, not 100 milligrams by weight. Therefore you need 4 millilitres.

via factor label method
.. 400mg * (1g / 1000mg) * (1ml / 0.1g) = 4mL
