Quite directly because most people try to treat their anxieties with little bursts of dopamine via sugars and added sugars feed the wrong bacteria and fungi,  which results in things like constipation,  diarrhea and/or IBS.

Alcohol does the same, but actually not nearly as bad. 

But they're pretty equally terrible for your liver.
