i think you are confusing genetics [evolution] with culture.  Western and Northern European cultures [as well as many Asian and Amerind cultures] placed strong survival value on cooperation and getting along with others.  In part, this because they have long, harsh winters with only one growing season per year.  In such climate, survivors MUST prepare for winter well in advance or they'll not be there come spring.  By contrast, this is not true in tropical climates where there may be as many as three growing season per year and far less advance preparation is required for the tribe to survive.  -- grampa  [yes, i also argue that cultures obey the imperatives of evolution .. and they are capable of changing much faster than genetics].
