Is this Country a Republic or a Democracy? Or has elements of both?

If it were only a Democracy the minority would be completely unrepresented and abused by the majority. This is the United STATES or America. Not the United America. I wanted your input on what the electoral college usefulness is and the definition of this Country. Thanks.

--  America is a constitutional republic.
--  America is not, and has never been, a free or democratic country going all the way back to the pilgrims.
--  America always hypocritically calls itself a democracy, and talks about democracy, but it has never practised it within the US. America may be slightly more democratic than many of the regimes it supports. The US strongly exports and supports undemocratic military dictatorships around the world.

A Republic is any form of government where the public is directly involved in the process.  A democracy is one where the method of that involvement is through people voting.

It's not an "either/or" thing.

It is a Constitutional Republic.

The US is a representational democracy. The Electoral College should be revised but not abandoned. All states should issue their Electoral votes proportionally the way Nebraska and Maine do. This will become self evident as our population shifts from the expensive coastal cities into the interior.
