I think it is now because, like many holidays, it's made to be all about kids and them getting things and the actually point of the tradition has been forgotten. I understand the candy companies did this, plus those that makes the costumes and all the gear - they know parents are gullible and will buy anything for their kids. Halloween originally had nothing to do with sweets or children. The traditions of trick-or-treat come from the ancient tradition of going to people's doors to give them nice things and blessing the home. It was about giving to the unfortunate and protecting them from evil spirits, not taking.

I like the true tradition but I don't like what Christianity and the Americans have done to it. It's not even anything to do with America, that doesn't mean they can't celebrate the traditions of other cultures but at least get it right.

No. Halloween is one of the most fun holidays I’ve ever experienced. Even if I’m too old to go trick or treating, I still like going to public Halloween events while wearing a costume.
