When 2.84 g of ethanol C2H5OH is combusted in a bomb calorimeter, the temperature of the calorimeter increases from 25 °C to 33.73 °C. The heat capacity of the calorimeter is measured to be 9.63 kJ/ °C.

Heat released in the combustion
= 9.63 × (33.73 - 25) kJ
= 84.07 kJ

Molar mass of C₂H₅OH = (12.0×2 + 1.0×6 + 16.0) g/mol = 46.0 g/mol
No. of moles of C₂H₅OH reacted = (2.84 g) / (46.0 g/mol) = 0.06174 mol

As heat is released in the reaction, ΔHᵣ < 0
Heat of reaction, ΔHᵣ = -(84.07 kJ) / (0.06174 mol) = -1360 kJ/mol
