There are many instances of polygamy among God's people in the Bible. There are even rules about how long a man has to wait until he can marry his wife's sister. Not only that, it says if a man dies without having children with his wife, his brother should marry her and have children with her. Why do religious people ignore that part of the Bible?
"Instances" of God allowing ancient Israel to do certain things does not equate to a mandate to copy them. God set certain ideals and goals. That's what we are to copy.

God has a problem with polygamy. It was Adam and Eve, not Adam and:
A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica,…
Polygamy is actually illegal in most countries. It also says that if a woman does not bear her husband children, then he can get a concubine.
Why do people ignore that part of the bible and what THE bible says? I don't I just say I don't understand why God does and says what He says according to His glory and righteousness. I believe He wanted to say and do those things according to what He wanted.
Scripture begins and ends with Gods plan of one man and one wife FOR LIFE.
In the OT, God briefly allowed multiple wives for some like Jacob in cases of female barrenness.
Marriage was instituted in Paradise when man was in innocence ( Genesis 2:18-24 ). Here we have its original charter, which was confirmed by our Lord, as the basis on which all regulations are to be framed ( Matthew 19:4 Matthew 19:5 ). It is evident that monogamy was the original law of marriage ( Matthew 19:5 ; 1 Corinthians 6:16 ). This law was violated in after times, when corrupt usages began to be introduced ( Genesis 4:19 ; 6:2 ). We meet with the prevalence of polygamy and concubinage in the patriarchal age ( Genesis 16:1-4 ; 22:21-24 ; Genesis 28:8 Genesis 28:9 ; 29:23-30 , etc.). Polygamy was acknowledged in the Mosaic law and made the basis of legislation, and continued to be practised all down through the period of Jewish histroy to the Captivity, after which there is no instance of it on record.
Our Lord corrected many false notions then existing on the subject of marriage ( Matthew 22:23-30 ), and placed it as a divine institution on the highest grounds. The apostles state clearly and enforce the nuptial duties of husband and wife ( Ephesians 5:22-33 ; Colossians 3:18 Colossians 3:19 ; 1 Peter 3:1-7 ). Marriage is said to be "honourable" ( Hebrews 13:4 ), and the prohibition of it is noted as one of the marks of degenerate times ( 1 Timothy 4:3 ).
The marriage relation is used to represent the union between God and his people ( Isaiah 54:5 ; Jeremiah 3:1-14 ; Hosea 2:9 Hosea 2:20 ). In the New Testament the same figure is employed in representing the love of Christ to his saints ( Ephesians 5:25-27 ). The Church of the redeemed is the "Bride, the Lamb's wife" ( Revelation 19:7-9 ).
There are many examples of all kinds of sin among God's people in the Bible. They repeatedly turned away from Him and started living by worldly standards instead of God's standards. And God kept calling them to repentance. Once the Messiah came, He set things straight, and made it clear exactly what God expected of His people.
My concern over polygamy is limited to all peoples involved with it being consensual adults.
As long as all involved are willing participants, I don't care how many spouses a person has.
I think it's all about numbers, if there was only 1 man and 100 women, what man would be offended if he took them all to be his wife, now I am pretty sure if there was only 1 woman and 100 men, there would be a happy woman, but 99 men would probably die by whomever is left to claim her, irregardless it's against the law, you should obey the laws of your land so you don't get punished, you want to change the law, more power to you if you can convince society it's good, not to mention, you better have a lot of money if you have a lot of wives, I can assure you though, multiplying wives to yourself is only asking for trouble, however to marry a woman that wouldn't feel offended if you had other wives would indeed be rare, not something the majority would agree to, but back in those times was acceptable
The only thing wrong with polygamy is that some really nasty old religious zealots used it as a ploy to sexually abuse young girls. It religion wasn't involved it would probably work quite well.
