Here's the thing, the ENTIRE philosophy of the literal bible is a farce.  The ancients DID NOT WRITE BOOKS THIS WAY.  It's people trying to use the Bible as a documentary - as a historical document.  But even HISTORIANS of that era were nothing like modern historians.  They were propagandists.  And even the FEW who seem to be pretty accurate generally aren't particularly precise.

And for things like religious books, the idea of accuracy or literal precision would have been completely alien to those authors.  That's not why you write a religious book in their mind.  It was about teaching.  So EVERYTHING is a parable.  Facts may exist, but all facts are prone to modification if it suits the narrative.  And they would NOT have regarded that as wrong or lying like we would.

The view of the bible as a literal work or as the Word of God is absolutely indefensible.  There are DOZENS of logical errors and scientific errors.  There are EVEN MATH ERRORS!!!  No serious person can defend the literal Bible.  Which is why you mostly get deeply unserious people doing so.

The problem is that once you realize this truth...that the Bible is filled with errors and figurative stories...how do you separate the true from the untrue?  Every word attributed to Jesus may well have been made up but the gospel writer.  There is no sensible way to know if God REALLY wants you to kill gays (as the bible VERY clearly states) or if you're supposed to love the sinner and hate the sin (as the bible ALSO states).  There is no divine guidance.  Whichever you pick, you picked only because YOU liked that interpretation.  You had no evidence.

So ask yourself?  Should you play the biblical guessing game, or just live your life and try to be a good person secularly?

It is not a parable, however it obviously is not meant to be taken literally either.

Nope.  The definition of a parable is a simple story that uses a common, everyday object to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson.  The Creation account is not a parable.

It would be more properly considered a "myth."  That is a story, usually with supernatural elements, that attempt to answer hard or complex questions about the nature and meaning of life.  Not all "myth" or false.  The word does not mean a false story.

It is usually referred as the Creation Hymn, because in the original language it is presented in a poem format.  Thus the repeating phrases such as "and God said", "it was good" and "evening and morning made the Xth day".

But no, the creation in Genesis is not what in literature is called a parable or a metaphor.

No,

Exodus 20:11 KJV — For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

...now call God a liar. You'll forever curse the day you were born.

The whole problem I have with Genesis is that it was supposedly written by Moses, and Moses wasn't even around to witness the creation, Adam and Eve or even Noah's flood. It's all based on stories. There's no verifiable evidence that any of it is true.

It's a compilation of all soughts.

Maybe not the creation account, but the 'Adam and Eve' story could be considered a 'parable' - one that was invented by people who had already inferred the existence of a 'perfect god' who would only be capable of 'perfect creation' and had to rectify that with the demonstrable existence of an imperfect human race.

Basically, it couldn't  have been his fault, so it had to be ours.

Modern Christans who realize a literal interpretation is impossible have clearly started to cast it as such. Though, that also had problems. If Adam wasn't real, was Seth? If Seth wasn't real, was Enoch? The bible puts forward an unbroken lineage and I've yet to hear any cogent explanations on when and why the story is supposed to move back from allegory to reality.  And, you can't really say you follow an Abrahamic religion while simultaneously saying Abraham wasn't actually real without a bit too much cognitive dissonance for comfort.

My take, this is the myth of a bronze age society.  A story people made up to explain things before we knew the real answer.  Don't count on it for historical accuracy or any deeper hidden allegorical meaning.

A lot of it is figurative and allegorical. Parables are similar.
