That phrase first occurs in the Old Testament (Genesis 4:26) and meant worshiping God with reverence and praying to Him. The sense was of seeking to draw close to God. So Psalm 8 reads, "O Yahweh our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens... O Yahweh our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!" Every time that Psalm was sung, the singers were calling upon the name of the Lord God, in worship and praise.
But in the New Testament, an astonishing development was explained as Jesus Christ was acclaimed by Christians as their only Lord and that it was in His name that salvation comes. Peter quoted Joel 2:28 - "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" - then applied that to the risen Christ! "Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit... Salvation is found in no-ine else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." (Acts 2 & 4) Then we are told that there is to us [Christians] "there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ" (1 Cor. 8:6); "there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism" (Eph 4:5).
That is why Jesus said that no-one can come to the Father except through Him. Jesus reveals the Father to us. "For in Christ all the fulness of the Deity lives in bodily form" (Col 2:9) Awesome!
This is another example of the hypocrisy of the trinity doctrine and a trinitarian's effort to 'prove something not found in scripture.
The trinity doctrine specifically states, Jesus IS NOT the Father and the Father is not Jesus the Son.
Then they will turn around and quote a scripture that is directed to the Father and then in effect say, 'See Jesus is the Father'
The angel Gabriel told Mary, Jesus is the Son of the Most High, in Psalms we learn the name of the Father or the Most High is Jehovah.
The scripture in question is a quote from Joel.
(Joel 2:32) 32 And everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved;. . .
Not even Genesis 4:26, which is misquoted by one who answered, says 'call upon the name of the Lord'
This verse also uses the Father's personal Jehovah.
(Genesis 4:26) 26 There was also born to Seth a son, and he named him Eʹnosh. At that time people began calling on the name of Jehovah.
From this we find the expression "the Lord" found in Acts 2:21; Romans 10:13; is not the Lord Jesus, but the Lord Jehovah, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus.
(Romans 15:5, 6) 5 Now may the God who supplies endurance and comfort grant you to have among yourselves the same mental attitude that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that unitedly you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
If someone insists the 'Lord' in Acts and Romans, is Jesus, then they are denying the trinity doctrine.
Because the Father is not the Son, and the Son is not the Father.
These verses actually prove the trinity to be the lie it is.
.
Jesus answered Satan :"Go away Satan! For it is written, It is Jehovah your God you must worship." - Mathew 4: 10.
Available Greek manuscripts use the term “Lord” (Kyʹri·os) here, but there are good reasons for using the divine name in the main text. In the Christian Greek Scriptures, Kyʹri·os can refer to Jehovah God or to Jesus Christ, depending on the context. The Hebrew Scriptures frequently identify Jehovah God as the one with the ability to read hearts.
It would have been natural in this context, then, for those Hebrew-speaking Jews to use the divine name when praying to God. The Greek word kar·di·o·gnoʹstes (lit., “knower of hearts”) occurs only here and at Acts 15:8, where it clearly refers to God. Although existing Greek manuscripts of Acts use the word Kyʹri·os (Lord) here, the context and the Hebrew Scripture background, as well as the ambiguity of the term Kyʹri·os, provide good reasons for using the divine name in the main text.
Why does the New World Translation use the form “Jehovah”? In English, the four letters of the Tetragrammaton (יהוה) are represented by the consonants YHWH. As was true of all written words in ancient Hebrew, the Tetragrammaton contained no vowels. When ancient Hebrew was in everyday use, readers easily provided the appropriate vowels.
Why is the name missing from many Bible translations? The reasons vary. Some feel that Almighty God does not need a unique name to identify him. Others appear to have been influenced by the Jewish tradition of avoiding the use of the name, perhaps out of fear of desecrating it. Still others believe that since no one can be sure of the exact pronunciation of God’s name, it is better just to use a title, such as “Lord” or “God.”
Mt 6:9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, ...
If you say, "Father in heaven", you'll be okay.

We should worship only Jehovah. Psalm 83:18 says: “You, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth.” Jesus wanted people to know exactly who the true God is, and he taught people God’s name. (Read John 17:6.) Jesus said: “It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.” (Matthew 4:10) So, as God’s servants, we follow Jesus’ example. We worship only Jehovah, we use his name, and we teach others God’s name and what he will do for us.

There's no "Jehovah." It's a name made up by 13th-century Catholic clergyman Raymundus Martini after he was commissioned to translate the Koine Greek Bible to Latin.
He started with the consonants of the Tetragrammaton, YHWH, and added vowels from "adonai", Hebrew -- "lord", ending up with "Yahowah", which was later changed to "Jehovah."
It could just as well have been "Jahawah", "Jeheweh", "Johovoh" or any permutation thereof.
@ No Chance -- NO. Growing up Greek Orthodox, I never once heard or saw the word "Jehovah" anyone in church services or in the Koine Greek Bible.

Careful there...you're starting to THINK too much. They don't appreciate that kind of thing in the church.
This is referring to calling upon the name Jehovah. In Romans 10:13, the Bible writer quoted from an Old Testament passage at Joel 2:32, where God's personal name is found in Biblical Hebrew.
LORD Jehovah
Lord Jesus
Jehovah is the one who is called on in the name of Jesus
Jesus is the mediator
we are calling on our Father Jehovah (YHWH). many say that Jesus is Jehovah incarnate and that is a lie. many say that Jesus is God and that is a lie also. Jehovah is the Almighty God and Jesus is a Mighty God. the king james took Jehovah's name out which they have no right doing. our bible put Jehovah's name where it belongs. read psalms 83 verse 18 in the king james bible. our bible speaks in plain English which the king james bible does not. .

You call upon the name of Jehovah God as only he is called the Hearer of Prayer. But in keeping with his Son's words, we ask our prayers to be heard in the name of Jesus Christ as he is the only mediator between Jehovah and man.
DOSE GOD HAVE A NAME? Jesus said: "Our Father in the heavens, let your NAME be sanctified." ( Matthew 6:9) Although God has many titles, he has only one name. In each language, it is pronounced differently. In English it is usually pronounced "Jehovah." But some people pronounce it "Yahweh." Read Psalm 83:18. God's name has been taken out of many Bibles and replaced with the titles Lord or God. But when the Bible was written, it contained God's name some 7,000 times. Jesus made God's name known when he taught people about God. Read john 17:26 For more information JW.ORG
Jesus is Lord, Always was and always will be!
Jehovah is not found in the bible, it is an Helenic variation of Yahweh......which is not a name, but a description. "I am that I am"
Philippians 2:10-11
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
YAHWEH OR JESUS IS FINE WHEN PRAYING OR SAY LORD...
Doesn't make any difference. They are both names for the one true God, like Yahweh and several others.
This is another Jehovah's Witness bait question, but I'll answer it anyway.
Jesus Christ is God, THE SON.
His Father is God, THE FATHER.
GOD, THE HOLY SPIRIT proceeds from both.
The Holy Trinity is truly a divine mystery, beyond human capacity to comprehend it. We can only ACCEPT it, and not even that without the help of God Himself, the Holy Spirit.
It's proper to call any of the three Persons "Lord," because each is God, yet they are ONE God, not three gods (and definitely not the three-headed abomination that JWs claim that "Trinitarians" believe). So when we call any of the three Persons "Lord," we are really speaking to all three, because They are ONE God 💒👑🕊
See Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 9:6-7, Mark 12:36-37, Luke 2:11, John 11:27, Acts 2:36, and Revelation 11:15-17. There's probably others, but it's getting late.
Are you referring to Romans 10:13? It is quoting Joel 2:32, which I am sure shows that Lord here refers to YHWH, which is the Hebrew form of God's name in Hebrew without the vowels, or Jehovah in the English tongue. If you check out Psalms 110:1 and compare it to Matthew 22:42-45 you will see that Jehovah and Jesus are, definitely two separate beings. So Romans 10:13 shows that we must call upon Jehovah's name to be saved. His name is that important. So, why was it removed from so many Bibles? For, basically, the same reason you mentioned. If you take Jehovah's name out of the Bible, it makes it tougher to distinguish the difference between Jehovah and Jesus, which is what the churches want. The trinity is, obviously, not true, if you do a proper Bible study. However, it makes it easier for the churches to hide this fact when they take God's name out of the Bible. If you do not believe me, check out how many times the Tetragrammaton, the four letters that stand for God's name, Jehovah, YHWH, is in the Bible. The Jews did some work to keep it out of the Greek part of the Bible. However, because it was in stone and on many pieces of papyrus, it was tougher for them to keep it out of the Hebrew part. You can find it some 7,000 times there. Don't let anyone stop you from gaining salvation! Jehovah's name is VERY important!
Sounds like you need to know who the Lord is first.
God came down to earth and walked among us.
Go back in time ... 2020... 2019... 2018... until you meet him in the event that split history into two. Then if you want to make him your Lord, call out His Name and you will be saved.
Whatever name suits your fancy is o.k. seeing as there is no proof or evidence of any deity at all being possible. According to Arthur C. Clark there are 9 billion names of god. Gort, Klatuu barrata nicto can have the exact same significance as whatever name you choose to make up. Please demonstrate a deity actually exists and then we can talk about it.
God has many names, and He knows when we call Him.
Luke 6:5
"Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” "
[The Son of Man is who? - Jesus ]
[Who is 'Lord of the Sabbath'? - God ]
Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:2
"To the church of God which is at Corinth,
to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus,
saints by calling,
with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
their Lord and ours: ... "
Philippians 2:11
"... every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father."
'Jehovah' is an artificial name developed from YHWH.
None the less; Jehovah is another name for God.
There is one God.
One entity that is God.
One 'what'.
That God is expressed in three persons.
Three 'who'.
Along with the Holy Spirit, both Jesus and Jehovah we call Him Lord our God.
I believe in the Holy Trinity as brought to us through the Gospels.
Acts 4:11-12
Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Use one of the titles. I'm sure god will ignore it like always.
At Pentecost 2;21 under guidance of Holy Spirit the Apostle was quoting Joel 2;28-32 Which would mean calling on the Name of Jehovah the name false religion have removed from their bibles replacing it with LORD in capital letters When referring to Jesus it is Lord in lower case To approach Jehovah in prayer we do so in Jesus name as he is the mediator 1st Timothy;2;3-7 John 14;12-14

Ever notice one is spelled LORD and the other Lord.
That is correct, God has very many names and Jesus is Lord, so either one will do I think. But I always say "Lord" when praying or talking to him and sometimes "God".
YHVH, Elohim, Adonai, Allah, for just a few.
The name of the ONE. TRUE, ETERNAL, TRIUNE GOD
Jesus said that the Father had given him his own name. In prayer to God Jesus said, "Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name - the name you gave me." John 17:11 Problem eliminated!

The language that Christians use to describe various characters and aspects of their religion is complete nonsense.
It's to be expected when they are still holding to bronze age superstition in 2020.
It's not a literal name; it means the WILL OF GOD.
That is not a legitimate name of the Lord. It is a construct from the 1200s.
Both names refer to the same person. Jehovah is the premortal name of Jesus. (Premortal refers to the state of each person’s spirit before they receive a mortal body.)
You just have to get out there and give each a try. That is the only way your going to know which one you should call upon when needed. One can only be the One. Or can Both? I have heard of Three. But that gets a bit complex when they get together to make themselves into One. Oof. Just reach out and see which one it is. It has to be one of them. Or both. Or more.
Lord of ...., e.g. The Lord of the Heavens and the Earth, The Lord, your God.
