When the Bible says to " honor your mother and father" are there any exceptions to the rule?

We cannot agree to immoral or ungodly ideas our parents might wish us to accept. God must always come first. Parents' authority over their children is valid only to the extent that it doesn't contradict God's authority.

There are no specific exceptions to the rule. But of course it happens, because people are imperfect.

How can one honor them when they were so mean and cruel? I barely made it out of childhood alive. My father molested me and my mother knew and did nothing. They beat my little brother every day.

We are to show our parents the love and respect they deserve. If they were to ask us to do something contary to God's will then we would follow God.

Honor in that context means to take care of them in their old age like they took care of you in your youth.

There are no exceptions and the reason is because to honor, does not mean to forgive evils. What it means is that you do not talk evil about them, even if they do to you.

I have a situation where I chose to abandon a parent, because of how evil she is. But first, I set out to try and forgive the evils she has committed against me, but she was not sorry and so, I turn away and leave it in my Creator's hands. I was told that I do honor her ( he is dead), because I never talk evil behind her back and even when my siblings did, I would not listen. And that is honoring, even though she does not deserve it.

Ya there's that entire part where Jesus says to hate your family .
Luke 14/26. Sure context is needed but why does Jesus and god always
inspire or write scripture and then add " " " Oh Oh Oh that's not what i meant
because i have a problem with specifics and conveyance "

I think that your always supposed to be respectful and obedient to them, though if they are asking you to sin then that is not apart of honoring your father and mother

Absolutely none, and you can go to hell for disobeying that command.

The Pharisees thought they had found an exception (Mk 7:6-13).  Jesus basically told them that because of that exception, they would go to hell.

If you are in that situation, you may want to go to Rom 12:17-21 for guidance.

And anticipate things going bad for you even in this life if you decide to go ahead and violate that command (Eph 6:2-3).  Christianity is all about being good to others, even if you don't like them or they are mean to you (Mt 5:44; 1Pet 3:9).  Good luck and God bless.

There are no exceptions to the rule and no need for any. I have heard people argue, what if your parents are child molesters or are beating you or telling you to steal? Really that has nothing to do with honoring them. They are bad people, but they are still your parents. They are not bringing honor to their parents or you, but that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't bring honor to them.
Someone once told me when I was younger that bullies are going to bully and that's their choice of actions. You can join them or choose a better path, but you can't expect to change them, only yourself.
Same with honoring your parents. I am lucky enough to have decent parents, but if they were bad people, I would have a choice to join them or rise above them into God's Kingdom. Which choice do you think would bring honor to them?
