how to be a fun person to talk to?

Be a good listener.  People love to talk to people who appear to be listening and interested in what they have to say.  And as you listen intently, pick up on what the speaker thinks is funny, important, sad, interesting, etc. and then bring up something about that key point to keep the conversation moving.  If the conversation starts to slack, and it will, then bring up that key point and kick off a new but related conversation theme.
