A chemist is making a compound that is composed of one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms. To make 18.0 g of it, she must react 16.0 g of oxygen and 2.0 g of hydrogen. She then wants to make another compound, which is composed of two oxygen atoms and two hydrogen atoms. How many grams of oxygen must she react with 2.0 g of hydrogen to make that gas?

In the first compound, ratio of numbers of atoms  O : H = 1 : 2
Mass of O needed to react with 2.0 g of H = 16.0 g

In the second compound, ratio of numbers of atoms  O : H = 2 : 2
Mass of O needed to react with 2.0 g of H = (16.0 g) × 2 = 32.0 g
