Shaded area (a triangle)
= (1/2) × Base × Height
= (1/2) × 3 × 3
= 4.5

Area of the circle
= π (4)²
= 16π

Fraction of the shaded area of the circle
= 4.5/16π
= 9/32π

The answer: B) 9/32π

You are given everything you need to find the areas of the circle and the triangle.

The triangle has base and height of 3, so:

A = bh/2
A = 3(3)/2
A = 9/2

Then the circle has a radius of 4, so:

A = πr²
A = π(4)²
A = 16π

The fraction of the area of the triangle compared to the circle:

(9/2) / (16π)

Division is the same as the multiplication of the reciprocal:

(9/2) * 1 / (16π)

Simplify:

9/(32π)

Answer B.

 In the xy-plane,
 line k has an x-intercept of (-3, 0) and a y-intercept of (0, 3),
 and the circle with center O has a radius of 4.
 What fraction of the area of the circle is shaded?

 The area of the triangle is 4.5
 The area of the circle 16π

 The shaded area is 4.5/16π

  Answer choice:
  B) 9/32π
