A cyclist exerts a force of 125 N to accelerate from rest to a speed of 10.0 m/s. What is the cyclist’s power output? Consider the difference between average velocity and instantaneous velocity.

Average velocity, v
= (0 + 10.0)/2 m/s
= 5 m/s

The cyclist's power output
= F v
= 125 × 5 W
= 625 W

At the beginning power = v*F = 0 * 125 = 0 W
At the end the power = v*F = 10 * 125 = 1250 W
The AVERAGE power = F * v avg = F *(vi+vf)) / 2 = (Pi+Pf)/2 =1250 / 2 = 625 W
