Math Question?
There's no numbers to plug in, so what would be the "formula" to get both the x-intercept and the y-intercept?
回答 (3)
a.
The y-intercept of a straight line is the y-coordinate when x = 0.
Plug x = 0 into the equation:
y = m(0) + b
y = b
Hence, y-intercept = b
b.
The x-intercept of a straight line is the x-coordinate when y = 0.
Plug y = 0 into the equation:
0 = mx + b
x = -b/m
Hence, the x-intercept = -b/m
The y-intercept is when x=0 (on the y-axis), y=b
The x-intercept is when y=0 (on the x-axis)
0 = mx +b
x = -b/m
y intercept is when x = 0
y = mx + b
y = 0 + b
y intercept = 0
x intercept is when y = 0
y = mx + b
0 = mx + b
mx = –b
x = –b/m
x intercept = –b/m
