Math triangle area bounds?
A triangle has a base of 3.1 and a height of 4.2, only correct to one decimal place. What are the upper and lower bounds of the area of the triangle, as accurately as possible?

Upper bound of the area of triangle
= (1/2) × 3.15 × 4.25
= 6.69375
Lower bound of the area of the triangle
= (1/2) × 3.05 × 4.15
= 6.32875
micatkie thank you and may you have a blessed day
3.05 ≤ base < 3.15
4.15 ≤ height < 4.25
Area is (1/2)(base)(height)
Hence, both lower bounds will give a lower bound area.
Also, both upper bounds will give an upper bound area
so, lower bound is (1/2)(3.05)(4.15) => 6.32875
and upper bound is (1/2)(3.15)(4.25) => 6.69375
Note: for calculation purposes we use the values 3.15 and 4.25
so, l.b. = 6.3 and u.b. = 6.7...to 1 d.p.
