little+不可數名詞：表示否定
There is little hope.=沒有什希望了。
在形容詞little前面再加上副詞very並不改變句意，還是「沒有」。

a little +不可數名詞：表示肯定
There is a little hope.=有一點希望。

所以本題的合適選項只有一個：A：very little

a little與little的差異在於說話時的心態，前者強調「有」的觀念，而後者則強調「無」的觀念。

可與形容詞few的用法比較：
Very few understand what he said.＝沒有幾個人瞭解他說什甚麼。
few當複數代名詞用，表示否定。
Only a few visited us.=只有少數人訪問我們。（加上a變肯定）
He has (very) few friends.=他的朋友（極）少（幾乎沒有）。
He has a few friends.=他有一些（幾個）朋友。

few/a few+可數名詞

1. very a little
2. little very
3. a little very
上面這三項都是不正確的文字組合。不合英語語法。

(A) very little
=little
=adv.
=used without a, to show the smallest of the amount, not much, not enough,
===have very little (hope) left in HK.
=not much; hardly at all; only slightly;
With the recession and social unrest, there is (A) very little "very" chance of amount  that we'll make more than we did last year
=have very little "hope" left in Hongkong.
=hardly, not much; rarely
=with such verb as make and placed before the verb "make"
=Little do we make more
=The riot did what a very little we could make
=know;think; imagine; guess, suspect, "Realize"
=what (A)very little
(B),(C),(D) are not grammatical.
