Math question ?
A yellow cab has a base fare of $3.50 per ride plus $0.20 for each 1/4 of a mule ridden. If a yellow cab costs $22.50 how many miles long was the ride?

Let y miles be the distance that the cab rides.
Cost in $:
3.5 + 0.20y = 22.5
0.20y = 19
y = 95
Hence, the cab rides 95 miles.
22.50-3.50=19
19/0.2=95
95/4=23.75 miles
A yellow cab has a base fare of $3.50 per ride
plus $0.20 for each 1/4 of a mile ridden. If a yellow cab costs $22.50 how many miles long was the ride?
(A) 23.75 miles (B) 42.5 miles (C) 47.5 miles
2250 = 350 + 80 m
m = 23.75 miles
C = 3.5 + 0.2m....where C is cost and m is 'mules' ridden!!
so, 22.5 = 3.5 + 0.2m
=> 0.2m = 19
Hence, m = 95
i.e. 95 quarter mules
so, 95/4 => 23 3/4 mules
