Why do scientists take religion less seriously?

Because science trains one to think critically and objective and to look at the evidence.  An objective look at religion shows that there is no reason to suspect that it is right.

Most scientists tend to be atheists or agnostics.

Science is all about finding out

Scientists have more important things to consider, than the pretenses of others.
Science deals with what is.  Religion deals with what isn't.
They do not, in fact, can not relate.

If that were true, there wouldn't be thousands of scientists who are Christians and members of other religions.

I take anything seriously if there is reliable evidence to back it up.

Unfortunately the bible does not constitute as evidence, but is rather hearsay.
