Assume the you have a compound Y that has a molar absorptivity of 3420 M^-1 cm^-1 . If the absorbance of a solution of this substance is 0.350, what is its concentration? Assume the substance is measured in a spectrophotometer cuvette having a path length of 1.00 cm .

Absorbance, A = 0.350
Molar absorptivity, ∊ = 3420 M⁻¹ cm⁻¹
Length of the light path, ℓ = 1 cm

A = ∊ ℓ c
Then, c = A / (∊ ℓ)

Concentration c = 0.350 / (3420 × 1) M = 1.02 × 10⁻⁴ M
