A 55 kg object is sliding down a 32-degree slope. If it is accelerating at 1.2m/s², find the coefficient of friction of the slope.

Take g = 9.8 m/s²

F = ma
mg sin32° - μ mg cos32° = ma
g sin32° - μ g cos32° = a
9.8 × sin32° - μ × 9.8 × cos32° = 1.2
μ × 9.8 × cos32° = 9.8 × sin32° - 1.2
μ = (9.8 × sin32° - 1.2) / (9.8 × cos32°)
Coefficient of friction, μ = 0.48

What coefficient of friction would cause it to continue to sled at a constant velocity?

For constant velocity, resultant force = 0
mg sin32° - μ mg cos32° = 0
sin32° - μ cos32° = 0
μ cos32° = sin32°
μ = sin32°/cos32°
Coefficient of friction, μ = 0.62
