Why do people get drunk? Is it a coping mechanism for the mentally weak and terminally miserable? ?

Maybe, not sure. I used to get drunk, quite a bit. Started in 6th grade, ended in my mid to late 20's. I enjoyed anything that took me out of my own head. I didn't believe I was miserable. I didn't believe I was weak minded either. Didn't really care one way or the other about pretty much anything except , as I was told. Getting drunk and getting laid.
