How to solve this question ?
Pat is filling a bathtub. She lets the water run for two minutes, which fills the tub one-quarter full. She then turns off the water to answer the telephone. When she returns 3 minutes later, she turns the taps fully open to finish filling the tub three quarters full, which takes another 3 minutes. She gets into the tub. After a 10 minute bath, she pulls the plug, and the tub drains in 5 minutes. Sketch a graph of the water level in the tub from start to finish. Remember to label the axes and to use appropriate scales.

The answer is as follows:
Put the height of the water on the vertical axis (from 0 = empty, to 1 = 100% full)
Put time (in minutes) on the horizontal axis.
The starting point is (0,0) --> at time 0, the bathtub level is 0.
Then the next point is (2, 0.25) --> at time 2, the bathtub level is 1/4 (0.25)
Draw a line between those points to represent the water filling the tub.
It then sits at that level for 3 minutes, so the next point is (5, 0.25). Draw a horizontal line connecting the prior point to this one.
It now takes 3 more minutes to get the tub to 3/4 full, so the next point is (8, 0.75).
When she gets in the tub, the water level should have risen because she displaces a certain volume of water, but I guess we ignore that. Just imagine that the level stays at 3/4 full for 10 more minutes. So the next point is (18, 0.75). Draw a horizontal line.
Finally, it takes 5 minutes to get back to a level of 0. So the final point is (23, 0).
Can you draw that? Or do you need more help?
