They're ignorant or they've been taught that by ignorant and/or malicious Protestant clergymen.  Without the Catholic Church keeping Christianity alive in the West, there'd be no Protestantism.

The Orthodox Christian Church and the Catholic Church both resulted from the Great Schism of 1054  -- the split in the Christian Church founded at Pentecost.

Because they have a special Bible that re-defines "Christian" to mean only those with their particular beliefs. Protestants never acknowledge how much tradition their churches take for granted.

Only the most fundamentalist Protestants make such absurd statements. They realize they came into existence by defecting from the Catholic Church, so they are desperate to have a reason why the Catholic Church is "bad", so their defection from it might somehow be justified. But anyone who has bothered to learn about the history of Christianity knows that the Catholic Church is the one Church Jesus Christ founded, to which He promised the fullness of God's truth until the end of time.

It's usually just in-fighting, judging others, petty things that people do to other people.

Pentecost is the birthday of the Church because from that point on the apostles carried the message of Christ to the whole world. The authority that Christ gave his Apostles through the Holy Spirit extends through the bishops today. The Holy Spirit continues to guide the Church. In fact, St. Augustine said that the Holy Spirit was the soul of the Church. Just as the soul gives life to the body, so also the Spirit gives life to the Church.

The fundamentalists attack the Catholics because deep inside (even if they deny it) they know that the Catholics are the original Christians.

All the Christian world uses the Bible as put together by the authority of the Catholic Church.Among the Christian churches, only the Catholic Church has existed since the time of Jesus. Every other Christian church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church.

The Protestant churches were established during the Reformation, which began in 1517.

Most of today’s Protestant churches are actually offshoots of the original Protestant offshoots.

The fake "catholic history" is lies.  The Bible is truth, and when you look at the Bible, you see the true Gospel, not the fake "gospel" of catholicsm.

We're only trying to help people understand so they can repent and be saved. And many mistakenly perceive our efforts as acts of hatred, and they react with hatred. I never could understand that.

James 5:20 KJV — Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Jesus called Rome the seat of Satan, and identified the Roman assembly as the synagogue of Satan.

See photo below

Revelation 18:4-5 KJV — And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

A good place to start studying would be with Luthers 95 theses (grievances). Just a Google away.

And read The Red Dragon and Rome

2 Thessalonians 2:4-5 KJV — He opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

It seems to be a holdover from the Puritan movement. Quite a bit of the conflict between Catholics and Protestants in the early days of the Reformation was violent, with persecutions on both sides. Catholics regarded anyone they excommunicated as not genuinely Christian, and naturally Protestants tended to reverse the accusation. Both sides took the view that the only genuine Christians had to agree with THEM.

In the U.S., the Puritan influence has tended to hang around longer than most other places.

Because they do the exact opposite of what Christianity says.
