If they do, they are as thick as two short planks. Earth is about 4.5 billion years old, and Homo Sapiens have been around for about 300,000 years.
Of course not. Only fundamentalist Protestants make such ridiculous claims, because of their misinterpretations of the Bible. Jesus Christ founded one Church, said it was to remain one, and promised that one Church the fullness of God's truth. As a result, the teaching of that one Church (which includes well over half of all Christians) never conflicts with natural truths revealed by science. Truth cannot conflict with truth.
Are you so sure it was the Christians who said that?
No one knows his age well, not even the Atheists know!
No, most mainstream churches do not dispute the scientific age of the Earth.
As far as I know
there has never been a time
when all Christians thought that.
Not all Christians but many of them.
Most don't. It is only the small lunatic fringe that thinks such nonsense.
NO!! THE EARTH IS NOT 7000 YEARS OLD.
A small minority think it is 6000 years old. I don't know of anyone who think it is 7000. Most think it is around 4.5 billion or so.
Evolution is a lie and creationism is true. That doesn't mean the Bible teaches that the earth is only 6,000 to 10,000 years old. Young-Earth Creationism is also an error. The truth is that there is a gap of time (possibly hundreds, thousands, or even millions of years) between Gen. 1:1 and 1:3. God judged the previous earth after Lucifer's rebellion, and the six days (which are literal 24 hour days) mentioned in the first chapter of Genesis are actually a restoration (or recreation) of the earth. See my links below for more.
Do you know where you are going when you die?
Because we have all sinned against a perfectly holy and righteous God, we all deserve eternal separation from God in hell (Rom. 6:23). However, God loves us so much that He sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross as our Substitute so we don't have to go to hell. Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the grave three days later (1 Cor. 15:3-4). He gives eternal life freely to anyone who simply believes in Him for it. No one can be saved by doing good works. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone (Eph. 2:8-9).
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life" (John 6:47).
no they do not. We know it took billions of years to make this planet habitable. But humans have only been here 6040 years.
The resident Methodist here on Y!A
seems to think that the Earth is only 6,000 years old.
Go figure.
I think the Ark Encounter would be proof enough that they don't. Ken Ham had imagined his site would lead to followers of Jesus across the nation flooding in for an opportunity to experience his interpretations of the young Earth myth. Instead, the site is a joke. Most Churches pass off what's taught there as absolute ignorance of God's creation, and these days it seems as if the majority of attendees are just atheists looking to mock it on YouTube.
No. Just the fanatical ignorant ones do.
humanity is that old... the Earth not... way older.
Compared to all the other known planets, the earth stands alone. There's no reason God couldn't have simply "plunked down" a beautifully aged, fully formed earth, whenever and wherever he wanted to. So, all the arguments about age and timing are simply a huge waste of time and effort.
Do you still think that all christians think that?
Absolutely not. There is no reason for an eternal God to create the earth in 6 earth days.
Most estimates range from 6K to 10K, but we never lose any sleep over it.
Let's look at the observable truth about the biblical age of the earth. There are two choices and neither result in a viable god:
1. You take Genesis as being literal. Based on what we know, by scientific observation, anyone who takes Genesis as being literal is batshit crazy.
2. Then there's those who claim Genesis is allegory (to avoid being called batshit crazy). Unfortunately for them, if they claim it's just allegory, then Genesis isn't the word of god and Moses, who brought us the word of god as proof god exists is a liar and a flim flam man meaning the existence of the god is also a lie and a flim flam.
Personally, I think if you fall under 2., you're even more batshit crazy and a liar.
The majority never have. Until the 18th century, the Churches openly mocked anyone who took the Bible at face value rather than allegory. Today, of all the Christians on the planet, only something like 3 in 10 believe in such things.
