In a certain experiment, there is a 0.2 probability that any thermometer used is in error by more than 1 celcius. If 4 thermometers are used, what is the probability that all of them are in error by more than 1 celcius?

The required probability
= 0.2⁴
= 0.0016
P(all four are wrong) = P(first is wrong) * P(second is wrong) * P(third is wrong) * P(fourth is wrong)
= 0.2 * 0.2 * 0.2 * 0.2
= 0.2^4
= 0.00016 (or 0.016%)
The thermometers are independent, so you can just multiply the probabilities.
