Too bad there's no way to search for things on the internet.
2 giants from English folklore
Something to do with two giants in London as I recall
Neighbors that live across the street from me.
Gog and Magor were giants who lived in the West Country of Great Britain, according to legend, Anglo Saxon, I believe.
There was a fair in their honour every year and they were present as huge statues as high as houses.
I believe the effigies were burned at the end of the weekend.
Through the prophet Ezekiel, God says to Gog (of the land of Magog), “You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army. You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land” (Ezekiel 38:15–16).
Toward the end of our Bible, John the Revelator sees in a vision: “When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore” (Revelation 20:7–8).
'Gog' refers to the ancient tribes now making up Russia and the related eastern European people, while 'Magog' refers to China. In fact, for many centuries, the 'Great Wall of China' was originally called 'The ramparts of Magog.'
'Gog' was also known as the 'Scythians' who were considered to be the most untamed, hopelessly uncivilized and barbarous humans on earth. However, scripture still reminds us of this:
"...put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all." (Colossians 3:10-11).
In latter times, 'Gog and Magog' refers to the hopelessly evil, lawless and unrepentant people still living on the earth after the righteous have been installed into positions of total authority over the entire world, preparing it for the Lord's physical return. Satan will deceive and recruit these 'lawless barbarians' into one final army to wage war against that established kingdom. In effect, they represent all human evil concentrated into one final expression, which Christ Himself will destroy and remove from the earth without any real battle at all.
This is the event known as 'Armageddon,' (Hebrew: 'Har Megiddo' meaning, 'City or Hill of Megiddo'), a reference to another totally one-sided slaughter taking place in ancient Israel.
They are likely called 'Gog and Magog' because of their lawless and uncivilized culture, (resembling the old 'Scythian' lifestyle), and the sheer numbers represented by the Chinese approach to power, (strength expressed in hordes, rather than in strategy or tactical skill).
GOD makes us aware of recurring patterns in history by reusing names as references, enabling us to understand more about the nature of coming events before the pattern actually recurs.
Gog of Magog refers to a group of nations.
