So if a cashier or other staff have the same glove on from the time their shift starts to the end of the shift what are the protecting?

There are protecting NOTHING not even themselves

You’re less likely to touch your face if you wear gloves, at least for me. When I’m at home, I touch my face, eyes, ears quite frequently. When I’m at work and wearing gloves, I’ll spray my hands with alcohol if I need to touch my face.
