How do you deal with split days off?

It's quite common to work evenings and weekends, and or have to be there the next morning in retail. 
I would rather have 2 days off in a row to get some rest. But in retail, you work when they need you to work. You can try negotiating this with your boss, but you may end up with fewer hours as a result. If you need the money then you work when you have to work.
The job I have now is ten times better then any retail job I had. I don't even mind that it can be physically demanding. The best retail employer I worked for was a store called Oakley.
