一題英文句型問題。?

"in someone's power" 是一個設定詞組(set phrase).
be in "my" power to do something
其意思等於說  "I" have the authority or ability to do something.

這種句子一般用 dummy-it 放在句首去代表句尾的 delayed subject.
如;  
It was not in my power to prevent the accident.
"to prevent the accident" 這不定詞片語就是 delayed subject, 因為原句可以寫成:
To prevent the accident was not in my power.

An accident which (it) was not in my power to prevent
先行詞 "an accident" 是在隨後的形容詞(關係)從句中"prevent"的受詞,並不是主詞, 所以, "it" 應該是不能省略的.

An accident which was not in my power to prevent ....
= 名詞＋名詞的修飾語（形容詞子句）
所以不是一個完整的句子

在形容詞子句當中，關係代名詞which是be動詞的「主詞」，所以詞性屬「主格」。
which沒有主格和受格的拼字變化。所以從外形上看不出來。

The accident was not in my power to prevent.
=主詞＋be動詞＋主詞補語
補語裡的不定詞to prevent修飾前面的名詞power，對字義加以限定。

I could not prevent the accident.
=主詞＋及物動詞＋受詞
上面的這個意念變成一個限定性質的修飾語，就會將前面普通名詞accident的範圍加以限縮。
關係代名詞which可用在「限定」或「非限定」的修飾句裡當「主詞」或「受詞」，但that則只能當作限定性質的。

你的字典上在這裡標示it，不可能是省略。因為此處在文法上沒有它存在的空間。此外，it也沒有主格與受格的拼法不同。也許是作者想讓你注意到which跟後面的to prevent有關吧，所以才多加了it。我看不出其用意。

PS:不定詞是動狀詞，保有動詞原來的特性。及物動詞衍生的不定詞，就在邏輯上有自己的主詞和受詞。當作「主詞補語」的不定詞，其邏輯上的主詞，就還是句子的主詞；而當作「修飾語」的不定詞，其邏輯上的受詞是接受其修飾的名詞；邏輯主詞則要用for xxx來表示。這裡的power受到to prevent限定：我的那一種能力。
