can you cure a Virus? is the common cold a Virus? and do we have a cure? For once in his life should Boris Johnson be honest with the public?

There are numerous different kinds of viruses. The common cold can be caused by a rhinovirus or a coronavirus. Viruses have no cure. They can be prevented with vaccines, but if contracted, the symptoms can be treated and made less-severe, but the body has to fight off the virus by itself.

They have been looking for a cure for the common cold for years and have never found one so I doubt they are capable of finding a cure for a virus.

only a fool would think that corona virus can be cured. NO vaccine will ever be found which means that humanity will have to adapt to living with the virus.

A virus cannot be 'cured' it can be temporarily stopped with an effective vaccine. But like flu the vaccine only works against known strains of the virus.

Covid-19 will be with us for ever as it is constantly mutating. So even if a vaccine for the current strain is found it will not work against further inevitable outbreaks.

For example SARS back in 2000 was a corona-virus less widespread than this one and medication was found to combat it. But it is still with us 20 years later as the original virus has mutated meaning the original vaccines are no longer effective. Each time the virus changes so does the vaccine need to change.

As for Boris, he insists he is being led by scientists and while it is all misleading at least he is better than Trump and hasn't told us all to shine halogen torches up our backsides while injecting bleach.

The common cold is a coronavirus. There is no cure but they are hoping to have a preventative soon.

Boris be honest with the public? Hell will freeze over first...

No, there is no cure to virus, not even common flu. So far medicine is only stimulating our immune system to suppress virus -reduce its growth or freeze them. When we are getting older, our immune system is getting weaker, then those virus will grow again or even with drug-resist ability. That is called complication. 

I'm sorry, but it's not Boris Johnson's fault that the UK has this virus.  However, if his Ministers had ensured that anyone entering our borders, self isolated for 2 weeks, from as early as January, perhaps we wouldn't have had as many deaths.

I don't think the Governments all over the West, actually took what China was telling them, about the virus, seriously enough and that's why it spread so quickly all over the world.  Flights should've been grounded as soon as we knew.

The end of may is fast approaching and Boris Johnson  said that we would have 200,000 tests a day or more by then, 
so 15 days to go.

Sorry,  there are no general effective anti-viral medicines,  like there are antibiotics for bacteria.   Viruses are much trickier and less complex than bacteria;  and there is no medicine that can eliminate disease-causing viruses.  There some "anti-viral" medications that can inhibit or otherwise slow the growth or bad effects of some viruses however,  but there ain't no general cure......yet.

That's the problem with viruses--they AREN'T curable. None of them. You can PREVENT them (vaccines) and you can AVOID them. But you cannot cure them. And we do not have a cure for the common cold. There are over 700 viruses that cause the common cold. Not a single one of those has been 'cured.'  you can only treat the symptoms. 


I don't know what Boris Johnson did or didn't do--but he doesn't have any power to cure anything. Honesty isn't the issue. It's science.
