Windows 7 was one of Microsoft's most successful OS.  XP was the one with the longest life.  Unfortunately both of them are now zombies.  Microsoft no longer offers any updates for Windows 7.  First time a vulnerability is found in it (and they will find more), anyone using win 7 is wide open to every hacker and virus in the world.

Vista was not Microsoft's worst OS.  That title has to go to Windows Millennium Edition (or Windows ME), which was only on the market for about 90 days before MS orphaned it.  It was an update to Windows 98 SE.  It had the misfortune (or maybe we had the good fortune) that it came out just days before Microsoft released XP which pushed it out of the market almost overnight.

Windows 10 is an excellent OS.  Movie Maker runs on it.  It is just not installed by default.

Windows Essentials has just been renamed to Windows Defenders and is included in Windows 10.

All of the old GUI utilties (like Control Panel) are still there in Windows 10.  Nothing has been removed that was in Win 7.  By default, it wants to use the newer interface.  But if you like the older interface better then "settings", it is there for you to use.  (I go between them regularly.)

No reason in the world not use Windows 10.  It is an excellent OS.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Sometimes older software is the best. For example, I love prefer iOS 6 on my iPhone 4S, while everyone else has iOS 75 on their iPhone 92.

I prefer Windows XP.
Windows 7 is acceptable.
Windows 10 is the worse I have ever had to suffer with.

I updated from Windows 7 to 10 using the free option that is still out there (takes a while to find it) and really haven't seen much of a change.  I have fond memories of Windows XP as it was so much stable than Win 3x or Windows Me.

when XP came out, i still preferred 98,  when vista and 7 came out, i still preferred XP.

most of the time  new programs are hard to adjust to and alot of the old  functionalities disappear. I think it was windows 98 that was very responsive when you CTRL ALT DELETE,  everything would obey the order,   today alot of programs take a while before they react to you even when you CTRL ALT DELETE,  but then again,  its like having a high tech car, you get more  functionalities  but you also got alot of new problems.

Personally I forced myself to adapt to windows 10 because its free.

You can download  a version of windows 10 for free,  the downside, it has  a watermark in the bottom that says "activate"  but  its a legit copy that does everything i need. i also have a huge monitor  so i rarely notice the logo unless i need to look at the corner to see the clock or adjust  volume.

you should not be using win 7 if you are connected to the internet since it is not  getting security updates. you should either move to win 10, mac or linux.
