A sample of argon has a volume of 735 mL at 815 torr and 112°C. What is the volume when the conditions change to STP?
. Oxygen and chlorine gas are mixed in a container, with a total pressure of 401 mmHg in a 579 mL tank. If chlorine occupies 353 mL of the tank, what are the partial pressures for each gas?
回答 (1)
1.
Original: P₁ = 815 torr, V₁ = 735 mL, T₁ = (273 + 112) K = 385 K
STP: P₂ = 760 torr, V₂ = ? mL, T₂ = 273 K
Combined gas law: P₁V₁/T₁ = P₂V₂/T₂
Then, V₂ = V₁ × (P₁/P₂) × (T₂/T₁)
Volume of argon at STP, V₂ = 735 × (815/760) × (273/385) = 559 mL

2.
Partial pressure for Cl₂ = 401 × (353/579) mmHg = 244 mmHg
Partial pressure for O₂ = (401 - 244) mmHg = 157 mmHg
