Do I need to replace my battery or is the charging port damaged?

I have a Dell laptop. When I have it plugged in, the charge will be anywhere from 85-100%. Then, often times when I unplug it, to use it somewhere else, the screen is black and it's as though my battery's dead. I'm still doing my own research, but am not finding any answers. Could it be my charging port? Has anyone gone through this before and have a solution?

Sounds like your battery is bad.  If the charging port was bad, I wouldn't expect you be able to run the laptop off 120V power.

Calibrate the battery.  It could be out of calibration.  No luck, replace it.

A bad battery doesn't start a car or causes multiple malfunction idiot lights.

Dell laptops have a reputation for doing funny things if they are not charged on genuine Dell power cords.  Just a thought.
